Why a catamaran? First of all due to my personal love of the concept. And then for all the right reasons like, foremost, a proven history of good seakeeping (which is day in and day out evident in Australia and South Africa). Catamarans, in comparison to monohull, have maximum use of space for the given lenght, they draw less water, have better fuel economy, give more stable work platform at sea,… And the dimensions are well within road legal size for towing.
Why aluminium? Low maintenance , suitable mechanical properties, durability, good recycling posibilities… And also flexibility of deck arrangements, lower semi-custom building costs for the client,… Not to mention we know the material from previous larger projects.
The choice of having only the two engines version comes naturally. Catamaran hull works best with dual engines. Twin setup largely increases margin of safety since we always use separate dual batteries and dual fuel tanks. Not to mention the obvious like increased manouvering capabilities. The size of the engine corresponds to the intended service. A familly boat can do well with two 25hp still topping the tacho over 20kn.
Our Slomotion5 is not intended to be a racing boat, but rather a comfortable, low running cost familly or work boat. Due to a large platform the space can be used for variety of purposes, from familly outings, skiing, towing, to some serious fishing or other heavy load work. The client has the benefit of selecting the most suitable deck arangement and level of finish. The change of hull colour is also not an issue. We offer a few additional equipment items like swimming ladder, cockpit table, T top with fore and aft covers, fresh water shower, wood decking…more or less the list is what the client desires and is within reason.
